Fire m Christchurch.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Chbistchubch, Apvil 25. At 4 a.m. to-day a fire occurred m the old Post Office, Market-square, occupied by W. J. Foster as a cheap restaurant and lodging-house. The rooms at the north end of the building were gutted. Seven people who were sleeping on the premises all escaped, though they lost their belongings. The Benevolent Association rented three of the rooms which were injured, and their records and stores were destroyed. The cause of the fire has not been ascertained. Foster left at 11 o'clock, when everything seemed safe. The building was erected for a Corn Exchange over twenty-five years ago, and was used as a post office from about 1860 to 1879. It belongs to the City Council, and is insured for LBOO m the New Zealand oifice. Foster's furniture is insured for JJ2OO m the same office.
