Land Sale at Martou.
The announcement that Messrs Beckett, Hammond, and Dick would offer for sale by public auction, at the Foresters' Hall. Marton, on S turday 4,500 acres of first class rural land iv the upper Rangitikei district, and also the Hunterville Extension Tvwnship and suburban land attracted a large number of people. Indeed, the Foresters' Hall was filled to his utmost capacit)' by settlers from all parts of the district. The rural sections varied m extent from 100 to 320 acres ; the town sections from one-quarter to three acres, and the suburban from two and a half to twelve acres. The town and suburban sections went off splendidly, especially the former ; nearly every section offered beiug sold under the hammer at a very satisfactory price. The bidding for the. town and suburban section, was exceedingly brisk. The rural laiji was not m demand, a fact mainly due to the lateness of the date at which the plans were issued, people not having had time to go out and examine the sections. The proceeds ot the town and suburban sections amounted to about £1,00.0, iv addition to which £200 will be received from tho Government for land used for tho Central railway. A considerable number of sections were held over. In regard to the rural sections we may state that several of them were disposed of after the sale, and a number of them are under treaty at the average prices. ■ j
