The Manawatu Railway Company.
(Post.) The plain inference to be drawn from the result of yesterday's meeting of the Wellington-Manawatu Railway Company is that the shareholders, notwithstanding Mr Nathan's assurance of a good profl t,are opposed to the proposed sale «f the line to the Government. The position attained by Mr Kirkaldie m the election of directors, and the unanimous vote m favour of increasing the capital of the company, shows this unmistakeably. We trust that the directors will now accept the dnsire of the shareholders and try their brst to give it effect. The shareholders have a right to enterprise, and not merely to content to accept a profit on the snle of the uncompleted line. The position of the company is hy no means such as to compel a sale. Great things have already been accomplished, and the. last report shows that full nneeess is within measurable rench. The shareholders are, it is now seen, willing to back up tho directors m bringing ovier ony temporary difficulty, and wo most Bin<vrcly trust that the line will be completed by thh company instnnd of being abandoned to the Govern ment m a half-finished state.
