(united press association). Wellington, April 22. The Minister of Justice has received a telegram from Auckland stating that two petitions are on their way to Wellington respecting the case of Prendergast, under sentence of death at Auckland for murder. Oriu petition is from the jury who tried the case, and the other from residents m the neighbourhood of Prendergast, and both refer to the state of the coudemeed man's mind. The Government have therefore defeired their decision until the petitions have been received. The Minister of Public .Works was a passenger by the Coptic for Wellington. Napier, April 21. At the Education Board to-day there was a full meeting, Mr Ornioud alone being absent. Owing to the Government having only supplied the board with one-third of the amount required for urgent wants, the meeting adjourned to this day week to consider the advisability of resigning and throwing the onus of administering the education of the district on the Government.
