Doctors and chemists and the opponents of alcohol all over the world have tor so me two or three y<;ars (remarks the Ladies' Pictorial Journal) been racking their brains m. the endeavor to discover a temperance drink at once wholesome, warming, invigorating, and tempi inp. Experiments have been legion, but results have been disappointing, for some of the beverages have been too sweet, others too sour, and mockers have with some truth declared that there was a strong resemblance to soapy water about the majority. Still, it was possible to call them cooling drinks, for warming they certainly were not, either to the inner <t the outer man. Messrs Beckett, the celebrated aerated water manufacturers, have, hit on the very thing m their "Winterine,'" which may.without anyexaggeration,claimto be styled temperance grog, or teetotal punch, and is equally delicious whether used with hot, cold, or aerated water. With hot water it is splendid — rich m colour, ambrosial iv taste, and containing something spicy and comforting. No teetotal household need be without its punch bowl, no abstainer need go to bed without his "nightcap" aud if the truth must he told, it is more than probablw that even among those who habitually take moderate quantities of spirits, " Winterine " will supersede Cognag and Glenlivet, to which they have hitherto accustomed themselves. -
