Waste Lands Board.
i An' ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Thursday. Present— Mr|J. W. A. Marchant, Commissioner (m the chair), Mason, Bonny, Fitzherbert, and McCardle. The Chairman laid before the Board proposed advertisement of lands to be offered for lease and sale on deferred payment at Forty Mile Bush. The area of the former is 7600 acres, with an average value per acre of 4=l 2s ; and of the latter 8824 acres, value per acre £1 3s Id. The Chairman proposed that section 4, Block 15, Mangahao : and section 4a, Block 8, Mangaone, should be be set aside as educational reserves. Mr Mason thought it would be wiser to set aside land of better quality. Mr MeCardie thought these reserves were a drawback to the country districts. The Chairman thought the proposal a fair ! one, and it was carried. J Applications by T. and W. Stubbs for | leave to capitalise the unpaid instalments on their sections were granted. A memorandum from the Chief Surveyor was read, recommending that seci tions m they township of Hunterville I should be offered tor sale at an early j date. It was resolved to offer for sale sections at Marton as soon as possible, | the upset price to be fixed later. | A memorandum from the Under* ! Secretary for Lands stated that the suri vey of the railway at Pahiatua Block would be proceeded with so as to be proceeded with so as to be ready when the present contracts for the extension of the line beyond Mastertonare completed. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McCardle, to prepare a statement of j land available for settlement near Masterton. Mr McCardle brought forward the question of opening up the Crown lands along the main road near Hastwell's clearing. The chairman said the matter was being attended to. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McCardle, to ask the Government to place £'1000 on the estimates for the construction of the Makakahi Boad North, between IJawer-a. and Pahiatua Cross Boad, It was also resolved to ask A sum ot .£3OOO for the construction of the Pahiatua-Tiraumea Cross Boad, the Mangaone Valley Boad North, and the Mangaramarama Boad South. The Chairman said he had received a memorandum from the Government, informing him of the appointment of a Crown Lands Banger. A report of the lands disposed of since last meeting was laid on the table. They amount to 495 acres, the price IJeinsr *680.
