St. Peter's Club & Institute.

There is a course of lectures on drawing now being given by Mr Hampton m the Vestry of All Saints' Church every Thursday evening, at 7.30 p.m. We notice from the syllabus now hanging m the Church Vestry that the first two lectures were on still life, that the next two will be on vegetable -life, and the following two on animal and human life, these H ret -being till freehand drawing. Lectures seven, eight, and nine relate to houses and the signs on them with the principals of perspective ; ten and eleven, how to unite the studies of the prior lectures ; and twelve, which completes the course, is the finished landscape. By the syllabus of the twelfth lecture we see thai it will be executed m sepia, and, we are informed, that although the whole course leads up to a definite result yet each lecture will be complete m itself. The second lecture was delivered, last Thursday evening, and was attended by a number of the members of the Club. The subject matter was dealt with t>y the lecturer m a masterly manner, and we are exceedingly surprised that the attendance is not larger than it has been up to the present. Mr Hampton is an artist possessing considerable practical ability and theoretical knowledge, and has undertaken to freely impart this knowledge to others lor their individual benefit. We hope that before the course is concluded the lecturer will have succeeded m his philanthropic and disinterested efforts for the advancement of the young men connected with the class. We understand that a hearty welcome is accorded to non-members wishing to attend these lectures.
