George Thomas reports produce prices as follows : — There is a decided tendency toward increased rates for potatoes, as the Australian demand is now commencing to operate upon stocks, and prices are firm at £3. Last week was a very uneventful one m respect to any other line, and no differences may be announced. It is rather premature to speculate as to what effect the present Anglo-Russian difficulty may have on produce exportations. Oats rule from 2s to 2s 3d ; fowls' wheat, 2s 9d to 2s 10d ; colonial flour, £8 10s to £9 ; hams and bacon from 7d to 9£d ; cheese, 5d ; eggs, 2s 3d (very great enquiries) ; fresh butter, B£d ; salt do has a somewhat better demand, and has advanced to B^-1. Poultry — Turkeys from 9s to 10s ; ducks, 4s ; geese, 6s ; fowls, 3s 6d to 3s 9d per pair.
Messrs Laery and Campbell report business very fair sincn last report. We give following quotations for wholesale import lines :— First quality flour, £8 15s to £9 ; wheat, 2s 6d ; prime stout feed oats, 2s 4d to 2s 6d ; discolored, 2s Id to 2s 2d. The market is well supplied with fresh and salt butter, at 8d per 1b ; cheese, 5d to s£d ; bacon and hams, lOd to Is. Potatoes are plentiful, at £3. Poultry is not coming forward very plentifully. Fowls are worth 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; ducks, 3s 6d to 4s. Eggs are scarce, at 2a 6d per dozen. Horses sold on Saturday pretty fairly. There were a gsod many entries, and a large company of buyers. Horses broken to harness ranged from about £6 fit for light work, up to £30 for a heavier stamp. A few rery superior upstanding harness horses were withdrawn, and held over for private sale.
