Janet Oliver, a servant girl, for stealing jewellery and a watch from her mistress, got three months. Hans Ilunsen, a seaman, who stabbed a fel-low-seaman, gleaded guilty to common assault, and an he had been m pri^oh for three months, he was not detained beyond the rising of the Court. In a case against James Eastwood and James Wyall, for stealing £18 from a navvy and assaulting him m a bask street, the jury could not agree, and have been locked up all nigiit. George Piper, got six months for stealing a watch and money from a room m an hotel. Joseph Albert Green who had embezzled about £500 from his employers, lieid and Duncan, and who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to three years. H. D. Willcox, telegraphist and postmaster at Alexandra South, for embezzlement of about £150, got two year*. Frederick Growc, who was described sis an honent man when sober, but" vroiild steal with a policeman . within twenty yards of him to get drink, got twelve months for stealing tools from a cabinetmaker's shop. John Cousens, who stole a watch, <&<x, from a prospecting* miner from the West Coast Sounds whilst the latter was m a house of ill>£<me, was sent to gaol for 18 months. The onlycase m which no true bill was found 10-day was one m that of Frederick fc'ulton, for firing a revolvet with intent to kill, Carrie Fleming pleaded guilty on the charge of cbild-beatiui». Sentence was deferred.
