Murder and Escape From Gaol.

A shocking tragedy took place m the gaol at Coonambra, N.S.W., on the morning of March 12. In the one cell were a prisoner named Angel, who was sentenced the previous day to four years' imprisonment for cattle- stealing, and a prisoner named Thurstone, from Berntaa Gaol, m irons. As soon as White, the turnkey, entered to clean the cell, the two prisoners pounced upon him and knocked him down, and took his revolver from him. The turnkey, while down, called aloud, when Mitchell a warder, hearing the scuffle, rushed out of his bed on to the scene. The prisoner Angel then took the revolver from Thurstone, who had been holding it, and told Mitchell not to dare to come m. Mitchell, however, advanced, when . Angel firod, the bullet entering Mitchell's left In-east just below the heart and going right through and out at the back. Mitchell, fell, and after lingering m groat pain died on tho 14th. The two prisoners made off, armed with two revolvers. About five miles from town they overtook a boy oxi horseback pulled him off, and took his horse from him ; they both got on tho animal, and <ralloped into the bush. Troopers and a mounted party spent three da3 r s m scouring the country m pursuit, but without success, and later attempts to recapture them have been unavailing.
