VOL UNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
Tite JEaster JEncarapmcnt at Nelson., (UNITED PRESS A.BS CU.TION.} Nelson, April 6. Fully five thousand people attended the camp at Stoke to day, and the review and sham tight were an unqualiGed succcess. After early parade the men breakfasted, and then about st thousand of all arms fell m for the sham fight. The Wanganui and Wellington Battalions formed the attacking force,, and were supposed to have land&d on the seashore at Stoke with the intention of marching on Nelson. The defenders took up an almost unassailable position on Geyser Hill, about 600 ft high. The Artillery opened fire, and an attempt was made to dislodge the defenders. Each time the defenders hurried into squares, aud opened fire upon 'them. The attacking force was then driven back towards the sea, aad they sent forward a flag of truce, when hostilities ceased, on condition that the invaders departed within 24 hours. In the afternoon the review took place, Major Stapp being brigadier and reviewing officer. The march-past was highly creditable. The Wellington men were all particularly steady, whilst the Nelson Cadets, the Nelson country corps, Waugauui Navals, Palmerston Volunteers, and Nelson Navals were each cheered for their excellent marching. The whole affair was a great succeßS.
