The Money Market.

Messrs Charles Pownall and Co.,scriveners, Wellington, report : — The money market is quiescent, contracted applications for mortgage investment during the last mouth leaving quotations unaltered at 6£ to 7£ per cent. There is, however, more inclination to invest at the lower quotation on high-class securities, and operations to a considerable extent would now be entertained at that figure. Capital m the English market m again over-abundant, our last quotations being 2f per cent, for commercial purposes. Thy impending uncertainty of war with Russia naturally creates some uneasiness, and were- that event to take place we might look for much higher prices ; otherwise, m the absence of any large demand arising, the supply is amply sufficient for present purposes.
