' Dunedin, March. 20. The report of the accident Insurance Association for its first year of business shows a total income of £7746, and an expenditure of £5139 leaving a credit balance of .£2608. A dividend, of .7> per cent., absorbing i"500, is recommended. At the Police Court to-day, Fred. Ful•ton who offered to find the Dunedin contingent for the war m the Soudan, I was committed for trial on the charge of shooting, with intent to murder Michael Hayes. The accused was walking m Princes-street South.when some altercation took place between himself and Hayes, who was accompanied by. others. The accused considered he had been insulted, and took out a. revolver, and after it had once misfired discharged a barrel at Hayes, who, with his: mates, iran off speedily. The accused was drunk and excited when arrested, and said he was sorry he had missed the fellow. He was admitted to bail. A shock of earthquake was experienced here at a quarter past 2 to-day. It was not very severe.
