Defective Surveys.
(Auckland Her nidi)' '. , Owing to. the; detective . state; Of the old surveys, of. Auckland,.. it is, .stated ' ; there i 3 scarcely an allotment m Queenstreet, built on, about whioh there hjighfc not be legal trouble. The vast interests involved, and the feeling that nobody 'could tell where the thing would end has caused everybody to " let sleeping dogs ; lie."MMlv Sarael Coombesj /the ■ well known clothier, is at present putting up new premises adjacent to the Auckland,. Hotel, and has built a boundary ; and - party wall on the south side of his \ section right through to High-street. 1 It appears that this wall blocks the side windows of the Auckland Hotel. According to law, it seems that if windows are erected to a side boundary for twenty years they cannot be built out. On the part of the proprietors of the Auckland Hotel it is averred that these windows have occupied their present position for twenty years, and on Mr , Cqombe's side it is denied. Strange to say there is great difficulty m getting the evidence, of the actors m the affair.- -The achitect of the hotel is dead, in<J the workmon are either dead or scattered over the colony. There is also a secondary cause of: dispute. It is alleged that Mr Cooinbes' wall is built Upon a portion of the Auckland Hotel property, and it is rumoured that on that account, Mr Coombes is to be served with a writ, damages i-2000.
