Thurston, the Colonial Secretary of Fiji, rebutted the statements m circulation accusing the- colonists m Fiji with perpetrating the acts of cruelty upon the native inhabitants. . « Sir Saul Samuel will give a banquet to Lord Carington, the New txovernor of New South Wales. Trubner and Co., booksellers and publishers, 57 and 59, Ludgate Hill, have presented 300 books to. the New South Wales contingent for the Soudan. The Directors of the Australian Electric Light Company have refused to resign tlieir office.
