Waste Lands Board.
A meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held on Thursday. Present — Messrs Marchant (chairman), Bunny, M'Cardle Fitzherbert, T. Mason. The Chairman reported that no land had been sold since last meeting. . Permission was given to the liiwitea Road Board to expend i'B7 m roads m Oroua. It was resolved to consider the question of offering certain sections m Mangaone and Pahiatua on deferred payment and lease at next meeting of the Board. Mr McCardle gave notice of his intention to take action m the matter at next meeting. • i It was resolved to offer for sale cer- j tain sections m the Tokomaru Block which had been withdrawn on account of an alleged discovery of gold. The Chairman laid before the board a memo from the Under Secretary for Crown Lands, stating reasons for diverting monej' from Pahiatua roads to roads m Mangaone Block. The Chairman informed the board that the Minister of Lands would receive a deputation of the board, re special settlement regulation and openup waste lands any morning they would appoint. A memo was received from the Under Secretary, covering list of settlers iorrnthe Palmerston-Waitapu Special Settlement Association, and asking the board to value the association's land. It was decided to ask the Government to furnish a list of the names of all settlers torming special settlements. It was decided to inform the Wairarapa East County Council, m answer to a communication received from that body, that the board proposed to wait upon the Minister of Lands m reference to opening up Crown lands that day. The Chairman informed the board, that the Minister did not concur with the diversion of portions of votes from the Earewarewa roads for opening up Tokomaru block, or m the diversion of £1200 alloted to the Tiraumea Valley road to open sections m Pahiatua and Mangaone. • The meeting then adjourned,
