The Crops.
The North Otago Times states that nearly the whole of the crops m the I'ukeuri, Papakaio, Awanioko, Duutroon, and Marawhenu* districts have been cut, and stacking ia \ eing pushed ahead. The yield of both wheat and oats will lie, without doubt, very much above the average, and m some instances the crops of these cereajs are remarkably heavy. The crops are all gathered m Nelson", and the yield has been an abundant one. The hop yield will also be very heavy, but prices will hardly pay for pickiug, being only 6d per lb. Two years ago the hop-groweis got from 2s 6d to 3s per lb, so the great fall m price will seriously affect the whole district. It is estimated that there are 1000 acres under hops this season. In the Marlborough piovinoe the crops are all m the stack; and threshing is progressing m all directions. The yield per acre is the heaviest ever known there. Some of the early sown oat crops m the Oauiaru district hare suffered extensive injury from small birds. Wo have heard of a crop that promised a capital yield which has, since it ripened, lost half its bulk of grain. Mr David Knight, o£ Oeo, and Mr Bartlett, of Otakeho, who have grown crops of the sparrowbill oats, are believed to have the heaviest yields m the Waimate Plains district. The farmers of Tbranaki are busy harvesting, and wheat and oats will yield large returns this season. The cocksfoot harvest is being afot iv by the bush farmers m excellent condition.
