L Wellington Paper.] The operations of tbs Gear Meat Coin • pany are carried on on a vi?ry extensive scale. During the past five mouths they have been unable to export any tinned meats for sale m London m consequence of the heavy order* from tho Admiralty and Gorman Government. The company will ship by the s.s. Tekapo for Sydney nearly 15,000 cases of preserved meats, representing about 72,0001 b. The order was not received until Saturday morning ; the same evening the prices were wired to Sydney, and the order is complete. The meat will be taken on board the transport steamer which is to convey tho New South Wales contingent to Suakim, and will lie used by the colonial troops during their campaign m the Soudan. The cases containing the meat are smaller than the ordinary ones, though longer, aud will only contain 481 b, instead of tho regulation size, viz., 721 b. They aro specially adapted for the camel transport corps. The Gear Company have just completed an order from the .Admiralty for 100 tons of preserved meat, the last portion of it having been shipped to Sydney a few days ago. Another order for 50 tons has just been received, aud is now being proceeded with. The meat is made up m cases of 361 b for the navy. As may be expected, the staff is working hard both night and day.
