(UNITED PKES»S ASSOCIATION.) Chkistchurch, Feb. 19. The Premier and party arrived from the West Coast this morning. At a meeting of shareholders last night, it was resolved to wind up the Temperance Hotel Company. We are having beautiful harvest weather — the best known for many years past. Reports regarding the crops are ot the most satisfactory nature. The Hons. Stout and Larnach arrived here from Springfield this morning. Mr Stout met a deputation from the Industrial Association on local matters, and had a private interview with Mr A. T. Stuart, Premier of New South Wales. Mr Larnach left by special train for the North, en route for Nelson, at 4.45 p.m. Dunedin, February lii. Seven hundred persons went by excursion tram to Lawrence to-day. The railway excursion to Lawrence today was very successful. About 800 people left Dunedin, and the train received accessions at Milton and other places. The weather was delightful. The Benevolent Institution Committee has accepted a tender for an Old -Man's Home, m brick, which will be begun at once. At the Education Board to-day the following resolution was carried :— That, m the opinion of this board, the mode m which the Minister of Education has apportioned the vote for school buildings is not fair to this district, and that the only fair method of dividing the vote is by taking the average attendance as the basis of aportioning. The amount allotted to Otago is £10,628. Quite a batch of protests m connection with the recent School Committee elections were disposed of. at to-day's meeting of the Education Board. This gave rise to a brief discussion re the clauses of the Education Act bearing on the committee elections, and finally it was agreed, on the motion of Mr Begg, seconded by Mr McKenzie, that the said clauses were unintelligible. and unworkable, and that a copy of the resolutions should be forwarded to the Minister of Education. Auckland, Feb. 19. A deputation from the trustees of the Auckland Savings Bank waited upon Sir Julius Yogel to-day with regard to the investment of their surplus funds. The Government notify to the Hospital Committee that, on reconsideration, Ministers decline to interfere with the committee of management on matters relating to the internal economy of the hospital.
