[Patea Mail.\ We are. informed by the West Coast Meat and Produce Export Company that their first shipments to the London market per s.s. Aorangi, consisting of 77 casks tallow and 532 cases meat, have been placed at a range of prices which are highly satisfactory. The tallow elicited exceptional competition, and realised a price m advance.o| jßimUajc. descriptions m the same auction, fetching within threepence per hundred weight of the finest brand ot tallow shipped from New Zealand— viz., ~WB~-&* W mark. It was the subject of some comment after the auction, and buyers expressed themselves well pleased with the general get up, it being of good body, and although m some lots thejcolpr wa9 a little dull, it gave evidence of no chemicals having been used m bleaching, a practice which is a good deal resorted to and which is very injurious to the body of the tallow. The shipment of meat consisted of luncheon beef, boiled beef, and boiled mutton.; ■ The luncheon beef was reported as of excellent quality, and sold well, as did also the boiled beef and mutton, at an average of prices equal to the fop-^quotations of the London market. Being a first shipment, the comaany's agents2'Submitted samples to a firm of chemical analysts for report, and their opinion after careful examination, , was that, the meat was free from all taint, sound and wholesome The company hope, with the full reports which they have m their possession on this their first shipment of tinned meats, to considerably improve upon the quality. At the same time, as before remarked, the. prices realised have caused the directors every satisfaction.
