AGE SPECIALS. (united press association.) JjOndox, Feb. 5. C. Ji, Studd, the well-known cricketer, was present at a valedictory meeting m Exeter-hall last night, previously to his departure for China, as a missionary. The Queen and the Prince of Wales, have sent messages of' condolence to the Marquis of Normanby on the death of the Marchioness. A conference oi representatives of the English Conservative party, now sitting m Exeter, have passed a resolution approving of the proposed Federation of the empire. . . Feb. 9. The Italian Government have offered to co-operate with Britain m suppressing the rebellion m the Soudan, and restoring order. The Times, m commenting upon this offer, says Britain's prestige would be destroyed if a foreign Power 'were now accepted m bringing the Mahdi and his followers to obedience. Rumours are still persistently circulated that General Gordon is alive, and that he has entrenched himself m the Coptic Church m Khartoum.
