A REFORMED PROFLIGATE. BEDINGFIELD STILL ALIVE. HE PRAYS FOR HIS ENEMIES.

(UNITED PEBSS ASSbCrATION.* Dunedin, February 1?. It was stated m the San Tranciaco telegrams that Victor Bedihgfield, who, when "Captain" of the Salvation Array here, ran away to Melbourne, accompanied by a " Hallelujah Lass," had been killed while praying iv front of a saloon at San Jose, California. That the statement was incorrect was shown by an extract from a letter received by Mrs Bedingfield, who is m DuWdin. In the letter Bedingfield states :— "I have been seriously huct^ bntuarrcialUright again now. We were Jio^djng an open-air meeting m. front of Vsaloon, or hotel, when the proprietor came and offered me two glasses of tieer. Of. course, h» meant it as an insult, and I pushed them (the glasses of beer), away, @ne of the glasses fell out of his hand, and he threw the rest m my face, and told me he would have me out of that somehow. Then he went into 'thehouse and threw some dirty slops over me from an upstairs window. Shortly after that I went down on my knees to pray .for him, and he threw a big heavy pickle-keg, bound with iron hoops, on me. Well, it knocked me senseless, and I did not remember anything more. After that, concussion of the brain set m, and I was insensible for twenty- seven hours. However, I am well again, and leading meetings. The people here raised a mob and were going to hang the saloon-keeper, if 1 died. They bought 35 yards of ropp, and frightened him pretty well out of his wits. Inm hot going to prosecute him." A subscription is being started to send his wife to Him.* '■ * **
