Hawera Still Case.
(Tuesday's Hawera Star.) There will be a regular field day at the court to-morrow, and the lawyers and polity will have their hands full with the illicit distillation cases. As so many well known persons are implicated, more than ordinary int( lvst is manifested m tin; hearing, especially when it is known that such large stakes are at issue. Still they come. Another arrest was ma-ie yesterday by the police at Waverli>y, m connection with the distillation c.ises, m the person of Petor'Smith, who is charged with assisting Anderson m the manufacture of whisky. He was brought up before the Mayor this morning and remanded till to-morrow, when the case will come on for hearing with the others. Wo understand that altogether about thirty informations have been laid so far, there being generally more than one m each case, while m Bourku's case about thirteen different; informations will come on for hearing.
. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCEATfON.) Hawera, Feb. 11. The illicit distillation cases were partly heard to-day. Anderson and Smith, the makers, were each convicted on one m format ion. Bourko, the brewer, charged with convoying whisky, was convicted on tvyo informations. More cases come on to-morrow, and m the meantime no sentences have been pronounced. Latest. George Moss, hotelkeeper, lias been convicted of supplying material used m the manufacture, of illicit whiskey. Sentence deferred till the other cases are disposed of.
