Inveuca.ro ill, Feb, 6. : A man And his wife who arrived here on Tuesday tell a singular story . of how they were duped into making the journey on foot from Christchurch, a distance, of 370 miles. They state that they were passengers per ' ship Waimate. the husI band being a gardener. Shortly after their arrival m the colony both children died, and the man could get no work. One evening he met' a man who said he had a place at Invercargill, and engaged him at five shillings and sixpence a day to, go, down to work on it. The pair having ,no funds, started to. walk here, thankful of the ckatice of Syork. They ; were twenfy-4ye daj's on the road, m boisterous weather, and frequently slept out.
