Waste Lands Board.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Wellington \Vagte Lands Board was held. on Thursday, there being present Messrs H. Bunny (m the chair), G. Beetham, M.H.&, T. Mason, W. A. Fitzheybert, ami W. McArdle. A letter from the Under- Secretary to the eflect that the circular referring to deferred payment selectors not being allowed to obtain their grants, even though they made their celeclions before 1884, had been cancelled was received. It was resolved to. write to the Governtor authority to advertise for applications for the appointment of Crown lan Is ranger. In reference to certain resolutions as to special regulations whiuh ware passed by the Waste Lands Board on the 23rd December an.l 7th Jaunary last, it was decided to write to the Under- Secretary asking when the Minister of Lands would be m town, so that he might be asked to receive a deputation from the Board, and stating that the Board strongly protested against any dealings with the land m the Wellington district under special settlement taking place until the interview had been granted. Wi*li regard to the proposal that some additional sections m the Forty mile Bush should be offered for sale, Mr McArdle suggested that the Board should expend the money proposed to be spent m Mangaone on roads m Pahiatua instead. The money allotted for the latter roads had been applied to roads m the Hawera district. The. secretary was instructed to write to the Under-Secretary for Lands asking by what authority such diversion had taken place. The board were of opinion that there was no immediate hurry for offering the lands referred to for sale, and it was further decided that, before next meeting, plans should be prepared, showing the scheme for throwing open unsold sections m Mangaone both on deferred payment and on lease, and also the proposed prices. -The board resolved that the attention ot the Government should again be directed to a resolution passed some time since relatite to the necessity of increasing the survey staff. In reference to a sum of LI2OO proposed to be spent on roiid m the Tirauinea Hi vor district, it was decided that the money should not be expended there but elsewhere as the board should direct at their next meeting. In Jconsequence ot tho absence, through illness, of the Chief Surveyor, the tenders invited for expending a sum of L 8275 on roads were not opened. The board then adjourned.
