Important Auction Sales.

In our present issue are announced some very important auction sales, to which we 'will:. briefly, allude m detail. Commencing with the local firms we find , • Messrs Stevens & Gob-tow will hold quite a number of sales during the next few days. At the Borough Sale Yards, on Tuesday, the 10th inst', they will hold their monthly stock; sale, for which there are already catalogued 10 head of | beet, 50 steers, 113 purebred Bomney Marah ranis, 330 head of other classes of sheep, uGsi'ifcs horses, &c. The sale will take place at 1 o'clock. On Wednesday, the Hth inst,, the same firm will offey "some very valuable town properties m the Borough Q f PaliMewJoii, belonging to the estate of H, W. Bridges, Esq., which constitute some of the best building sites m the town. The sections are situated m Main, Yogel, and Ransjitikei streets, and as thoy are to be offered at very^ reasonable prices, the reserves beingJow| and on exceptionally easy terms, there should be eager competition for all of them. The various properties are" inore r fully described m the advertisement, and all requisite"*" particulars may be ascertained on application to Mr A. R. F. Johnston; solicitor, or to the auctioneers. The sale will begin at 2 p.m. sharp. On Friday, the 13th inst., the same firm will hold the great annual stock sale at the Oroua Downs Homestead. The vendors will be Messrs McLennan, (on behalf of the Hon. 'R. Campbell,) and F. B. Larkworthy, two well-known breeders, the stock, from whose r,qnp t being bred with greaj; cape, are always m demand, aqd command high figures, There will be offered fat and store cattle, rams, fat and store sheep, draught horses and hacks! Mr Snelßons monthly stock sale m very popular with the settlers, and mouth by month his enterprise is being more sub. stantially recognised. ' ' On Friday next, the 6th inst., Messrs HALCOMBE& Shbbwill will hold^heir periodical stock sale at their yards; A«hurst, commencing at 130 p.m. There

are already catalogued 6 fat bullocks, 30 mixed cattle, 30 steers, 12 good cows, 150 fat ewes and wethers, 1 draught mare, and 1 three-year-old colt. Tließe periodical Ashurst stock sales are a3 a rule well attended, and form a very important feature m the firm's business. On Friday next, the 6th inst., Messrs Nolan, Tonks.& Go. will hold a rain and sheep 'fair, at the Hawera Yaids. There are catalogued some very, important entries m the way of pure-bred Shropshire Down rains, Roinuvy rams and owes, Lincoln rams. Romtiey-Merino rams, 1000 lambs ia wool, 1100 fat>ethers, 600 ewes, 300 lambs m wool, besides other entries which will probably be received before date of sale. Special attention is directed to the Shropshire tarns, which are from imported strains on both sides. On Friday, 13th February, Mr M. R. Miller will hold a very important, extensive, and absolute sale at Mount Erin estate, Hawke's Bay, of Lincoln ewes, stud owes, rain lambs, acd other sheep, besides draught horses and dray, implements, &c, &c. The sale will b« held at Mount Erin station yards, to which intending buyers will be conveyed by special coaches, starting from Hastings railway station on day of sale/, on arrival of the morning train. Very full particu- . lars: of this most important sale are given m the advertisement, from which it will be seen that an opportunity is offered of obtaining first class sheep that does not often occur. The catalogue as published comprises 650 choice 2-tooth Lincoln ewes, 1300 4-tootlv ditto, 1600 6-* tooth, 1700 Qrtooth, 500 culls, 1200. ■. large wedders, 350 2-tooth ewes, fiist cross ; also 300 stud e\V«s, 2, 4, 6, and 8- ... tooth, and 100 ram lambs. An auctioneer's vote states that|the small stud flock are from Lincoln ewes, imported by : Messrs McLean, of Auckland, from the celebrated 1 floqlts .o£ Messrs Clarke and Vessey, Lincolnshire, England. This very important salo will commence at half-past 12 noon. On Thursday, 19th. February, Messrs T. Kknnrdy Macdonald & Co. will sell by public auction m the ball of ,■ the Athaiueuin, City of Wellington, the first area of th« Wellington and Mauawatu Railway Company's splendid land, comprising rural sections. in tha Fitzhcrbert Blocks, and allotments m the township of Linton. The said will commence ■ at 11 a.m., as there are somany sectioim to be offered',; that it will take several ■ hours to complete the sale. The area to . be sold m the Fitsiherbert .Blocks com- : prises from 18,000 to 19,000 neres of agricultural and pastoral lands of first clfliss quality, and' is conveniently situated for access from tlin settled portions of tbe blocks. Each section has a frontage to a road ijonuected with the district roads, which lead to the railway station at Linton, seven and a half miles from PahnerstoH North. The/ township of Linton aud. suburbs comprise about five hundred and fifty acres, and is the site of the station,, four miles from the junction of the company's railway with the Foxton-Taranaki line. The main road through the Fitzherbert Block leads to the station and the township, and will be the termiuus for the traffic of the district. The upset prices for pastoral lands will range from 20s to 30s per > acre,- and for : Agricultural . lands from 35s ; to 60s per acre. Small capitalists, aud settlors' auxious to secure a really good investment on exceptionally reasonable terms, will have an opportunity , of doing ao at this important sale which may not be offered them again fora ■ long time to come. About the' beginning of March, Messrs Beckett, Hammond & Dick will hold a great land sale m Marton. The,, sections to be offered, are situated jn the Upper Rangitikei District, and are part of the Rangatira Block. The area to be offered- will comprise about 4000 / aci^e, conjprising the Huntervilje townl $lhp' extension, and a large number of rural and suburban section, varying from 5 to 320 acres, the town sections from a quarter acre to three acres. Al} the sections jhave frontages to well graded roads, 'spine of .which are formed and are now being metalled ; others will be shortly cleaVed one . chain wide. The Main Trunk Railway from Wellington to Auckland' passes through the entire length of this block, as also the MartonOta«»akapua - Murhnotu Road. The whole of the rural aud suburban sections are covered with forest, there being patches of fine totara suitable for milling "purposes. The general character of the soil 1 is of splendid quality. A sawmill will shortly be erected on the Block. Lithographs of the property and full particulars will 'shortly be obtainable. The title will be under the Land Transfer Act, and the terms will be very liberal.
