Marriott, stationer, Lambtonquay, and. who was universally, respected •lxy old aplonists, amved from London, m the ■'.'"year-" 1842 by the 'ship Thomas Sparke. Mrs Marriott was the mother of Miss Marriott (Mrs Edgar), who for jiho last twenty years has been, recognised m London and; the province's as fa) talented' actress. . .
On Friday, at GreytoMn, another of the early settlers passed away: — Mrs Smith, widow of Mr. James Smith, who with her .husband and six iti family, •came putan the ship Lady Nugent (pap- ' tain Sehtry), which sailed from Blackwall, and! after a voyage • of exactly five months, (arrived m Wellington: harbor i on the l?th March, 1841. They landed at.Pipite^, P|oint, and lived at ( Te Aro.for some years. Mr "Smith and liis eldest, sons, soon after landing, went to Porirua - to cut a bridle track, there being no other road m that locality at that time. :
