London Markets.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated 20th January : — Wool.— rThe sales opened this day .at the level of last series, except for faulty sorts. Scoured and medium and interior greasy are easier. Seedy and burry wools are neglected. Up to date 241,000 bales have arrived ; 30,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. The opening catalogue contained 7600 bales, but was not a representative one. The Hon^e and German demand is good, but from other quarters the demand is poor. The next sales will commence on the 17th' March. ' "Wheat. — Market quiet. Adelaide is worth 38s per 4961b5 ; New Zealand ditto, 34s 6'd ; tuscan, 36s 6d. Adelaide f.a.q. is worth c.i.f. off coast, 36s per 4Solbs, and is quoted to arrive, iron ship, c.i.f., 37s per 4801bs per January bill of lading. Messrs Murray Roberts and Co., have received the following wool telegram : — Messrs Saunderson, Murray and Co., cable as under date London, 20th January: — The first series opened to-day, without animation ; good attendance of buyers. The market is weaker for all kinds except fine crossbred. The next sales have been fixed to commence on 17th March. ;
