CORRESPONDENCE.
The Borough Hack. (TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD.) Sir — Iseein your report of the Borough Councillor's last meeting that they resolved to purchase a hack for the use of the borough officials. I should like to ask for whose use this hack is intended ? It cannot be for our worthy town clerK, whose duties confine him rather closely to his office. I nnd nthor ratepayers had thought the Council hard up for money, for if they are asked for necessary works to be done on the strec-ts, ratepayers are told that there are no funds available. I am of the opinion that the money could be better spent m some of those streets where the inhabitants are bogged m the winter. Perhaps, m reading the report, I took the matter rather too seriously. The proposer and seconder of the resolution might only havo been joking. If so, they might have carried the joke a little farther and proposed to purchase bicycles for the use of the roadmen Fancy oqr sixteen stone roadman spinning along to bib work on one of those things, Seriously, I am of the opinion that no money should be spent unnecessarily while the funds of the borough are at such a low ebb.— l am &c, Pro Bono Punuoo.
