.--:• LAST NIGHT. ',- . Present — Messrs Leary, Woddroofe, Stewart, Wright, Hawkins, and George. Because of the low average attendance at the schools, it was proposed by Mr Hawkins, seconded by Mr Stewart^ and unanimously agreed to., that the compulsory clauses of " The Education Act, 1876," 89-93 inclusive, be put m fovoein the Palmerston School District from 25th January, 1885. . . The Board's Secretary, replying to Mr Leary's letter, said that they could not pay for auditing the books, and if there was no one would do it free of charge it would be done m the Board's office, Wanganui.— The Chairman stated that Mr Walton was willing to perform the audit, which offer the Committee thankfully accepted. With regard to the request for a new school at Terrace End, the reply was, that the Board would consider the matter at next meeting. Mrs, Harvey rep.ortedfh.at she had tq present herself for examination m Wanganui on the day of the schqol opening,and asking whether the school should be opened, — The Commiteee resolved that Mr Mathieson take charge of the school m Mrs Harvey's, absence. , The Ch.airm.an stated that the school-! master's residence had been, damaged by the storm on Ne,\v "year's Eve, and that h.e had qjrrai^«ed for having the chimney re-built, but that the old shingle roof was now far from safe.— rlt was re-, solved tfyat the Chairman inform, the.
