■ ..; FRUIT SOIREE. The following young ladies presided at the fruit tables : — Misses Leary, Grace, Hosking, Gleeson, Linton, J. Mowlem, F. Amongst the fruit daintily arranged and with effective display were gooseberries, strawberries, figs, raspberries, apples, plums, and currants ; m fact such a choice and plentiful show of- fruit we have not often seen at a public gathering. The hall was also beautifully decorated with flowers and evergreens, great taste being displayed m the festooning of the lamps and walls. During the evening the following musical and elocutionary programme was rendered :— Song, "Village Black-smith;"-Mr Kendall; song, "He i wipes the tear," Mrs Bunn; duett, "Convent Bells," Mrs Kibblewhite and Miss Grace ; recitation, "He lost his bacon," Mr Whitehead ; reading, " Merchant of Venice," Mr R.
