Manchester School.

(Bunnythorpe.) The breaking up treat at this school took place on Monday, and notwithstanding the inauspicious weather, there was a considerable attendance of children and visitors. Whilst the former were indulging m games and otber amusements outside, a liberal and substantial tea was being prepared for them m the schoolhouse, to which subsequently ample jus- '■ tice was done. The refreshments had been provided with no niggard hand by the settlers, and after the children had finished, the visitors sat down. The prize distribution had taken place after the examination, so that feature did not formjpart of the presentprogramme. Three special prizes were, however, awarded. Mrsßoddy, the esteemed' and painstaking teacher, gave a prize to Alice Clevely for neatness, and one to Nelly Dixon for good conduct ; and the chairman, Mjr ,G..H. Aldrich, gave a special prize to John Scheidt for good attendance. Eaces and sports for various trophies were next entered into by the juveniles with great spirit and exuberant enjoyment. Four gentlemen from Feilding, viz., Messrs Fowler, Bilderby, Bishop, and another whose name has not been supplied, brought their instruments, and enlivened the proceedings with appropriate music. . Altogether the entertainment was a great success, and when the state of the roads and the weather is considered, the wonder is that the assemblage was so large. During the afternoon the for- '■ est rang with happy laughter, and though there might have been a more numerous ! gathering, there certainly could not have been a happier one. The teacher, Mrs Boddy, has gained the esteem of all by her manifest desire to do her duty faithfully, and by the influence for good she unmistakeably possesses over her scholars.
