■m ■ : Volunteers Hynes, Moffat, Symons, and Stutter, under Corporal Macro, proceeded to the butts on Christmas Day for class firing with the following results : —
The official notification of late Lieutenant Carroll's promotion to the captaincy of the Palmerston North Eifles •has been forwarded from the Defence Minister to Major Stapp, as dating from 28th November, 1884. Captain Carroll has received a copy of the Governor's address on the Defences of New Zealand. The book is copiously illustrated with sketches of various methods of land and sea defensive and offensive operations, and also contains valuable information on the practical working of volunteer companies.
