Feildlng Athletic Sports.
The above sports were held yesterday m Halcombe and Sherwill's grounds and may be pronounced a thorough success, notwithstanding the unpromising state otthe weather. All the arrangements were perfect and a better conduoted gathering and a better ground for suoWa purpose it would be difficult to find, even m the large centres of population. There must have been upwards of 2000 spectators onthe ground during the day— a larger number than last year. If is not surprising to find these annual sports are so popular and that between 80 and4o competitors should take part when they are conducted m such an attractive man. ner. The number of starters for each event could be reckoned by double figures more often that not. A shower, during the day caused a great many to go home and was about the only drawback to the complete success of the day's amusements.
