ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Council was held at noon yesterday. Present — the retiring Mayor (G. M. Snelson, Esq.,) the Mayor elect (J. Liuton, Esq.,) and Crs Abrahams, Bentley, J. King, T. King, Larcoinb, Hutcheaon, j and West. . ' ' ORDINARY BUSINESS. Mayor said that during' the past year the "Council had had itiuch i trouble m regard to finance, and he I hoped' that with the New Year we would get' over our difficulties and a liew and prosperous , state of things would ensue... He hoped the ratepayers' would support' the proposed loan, so that the Borough' of Palmerston might be known as ii was m former years, as jbne ofyithe most pr6s-' ; perous inland towns of New .^ealand.He did not think the Bank 'iiad allowed: :; [the Council to overdraw its accoupttp the extent to which it. ,w&s. entitled. With regard to the borrowing schenje he hoped that thejjitizens will say that it .should pass. He trusted that with the 'New Year we should all, look more cheerful m the face. The railways must 6ventually make it one of the most important Mand town on New Zealand^ If we failed to take steps to get a loan our town would certainly stand still and i possibly go back. The minutes of the Works Committee were read recommending acceptance of Mr P. Armstrong's offer re waterwprks, &c, and also recommending scale of fees under Impounding Act, 1885^ ; ,;•:.; The Committee thought that ah alteration- should be made if possible m the driving fees. s.q as to mal^e ! fees, limited to one owner. The Council then adjourned.
