" Round the World on a Bicycle "is the title of a book which may be expected before many years are over, unless an untimely spill, or some other casualty, should mar the ambition of Mr Thomas ■Stevens, the young Englishman who has just crossed the American continent on his bicycle. He started from San Fr'aucisco on the 22nd of April, and reached Chicago ou July 4th, after a run of forty-two days from the Pacific to the Great Lukes. • His timn averaged fifty miles a day ; and his only luggage consisted of a waterproof hat, aud when crossing ,tho Rocky Mountains he was 'soinethneb without food for twenty-four hours at a stretch. By this time he is probably m England preparing for a ride across Europe. He hopes to reach Constantinople by Christmas, and then devote 1885 to a run across Asia. It 'may interest bicyclists to know that Mr Stevens rides a 50 inch machine.
