A Wairarapa settler named Welsh, sustained serious injuries on Saturday night by falling between the carriages of the train near Feathereton. He was passing from one carriage to another and fell, the train passing over him. His case, is considered hopeless. [By later news we learn that the poor fellow has since died. 3 Messrs Tingey Bros, are carry ing out the internal adornment of Bank Chambers. Attention is directed to a notification m connection with the Wellington College appearing elsewhere. Fraser who has been laid aside through illness was to-day out for the first time. *- The Australian Mutual, Provident Society is now prepared to issue policies to the extent of £10,000 on first class lines. ..■; , I ": Co '•..•::';• .• •'. . ]: - : ' We were glad to learn that Mr Walkley was to-day better, having passed an easier night. We hope to hear of his speedy convalescence. A number of cases of diphtheria have broken out m Auckland, and several deaths have occurred. It appears (says the Chronicle) that the trouble about the .hundred pound penalty is not all over yet. The amount has been claimed by the Borough Council, as well as by Mr Informer Tirains, through their respective legal advisers, and Mr Wo'oh, the clerk of the court, is m a quandary as to which ia the rightful claimant. We hear that he has referred the knotty point to the Minister of Justice, and will only pay on the advice of the Crown Law officers. Mr Park's new warehouse is rapidly approaching .completion. The ground , floor : campartinents are being pushed forward! with all 'speed, and Mr Park expects to 'get the new and handsome shop opened m the course of a week. The proprietor finds a difficulty at present m opening up large consignments of Christmas goods nowarrived and will have us^ for all the space m the extensive building which will soon be out of the builder's hands.
