COUNTY; ENGINEER'S REPORT.
I visited: the Awahuri Bridge on. the 23rd ult; and '.^gain at the reiquest of thfe Manawatu Road Board jon the 27th ult., along with Mr Armstrong^ their Engineer. The .river had broken its binks (at 1 the ;time of our visit) on both' sides above jtho bridge, and "had three distinct jcliannela, and large;^ portions ©f the ; banks had been undermined and e»\r- ' ried away . , It was proposed, to add •another spiin of ?0 feet at the west jend, und after inspection it was ; obvious that such a span would not ■make up the gap, and that m all pro- ; bability ; another ,span of the ?ame , size would ' soon be : required. We | were of the opinion, tha,t instead of adding- these large Sjpans, the i .riv.ei'should be narrowed, arid that train- ' ing works should l>e constrncLed for a I considerable; distance above the bridge, and that, meantime a plan should be prepared of the river bed upon which the training works could be shown and their probablo cost asI certained.
