A letter from General Gordon received by v Wblseley at Debbah dated Khartoum, November 4, confirms the news of the., massacre of Colonel Stewart and party by the rebels at Wad El Khomar. Gordon expresses his delight at hearing of the advance of the British expedition and hopes to be able to hold out until its arrival.. He states that he continues with steamers to harass the enemy whenever they, approach Khartoum, and adds that El Mahdi is only a day's journey distant from that city , ex ships Lyttelton from Picton, Dunedin from Oamaru, and Florida from Wellington, arrived m fair • condition. i , . .'.'. -• - • - Nov. 17.
