RAILWAY MANAGEMENT.

On inquiry this afternoon we learn that nothing official has yet been learnt by the stationmaster as tci what* has caused suspension of rail-' way traffic between Marton and Vfranganui, or when it will be re-; Buraed;or how far passengers can be takenV or m fact anything whatever concerning the matter. There has been -iio mail ftom i^Wanganui: since Thursday night,, nor is there likely to be another this week. The northern mails are despatched from here, ihut JjOw far they are carried is not known. The stationmaster (Joes not know how far to book passengers, or whether they can reach Wan- : ganui, or what facilities are provided for their being forwarded to: iheir destination. Goods traffic, of course, is at a standstill, and railway communication is entirely suspended m the mean time. We consider , the District Manager, Mr RoTHEEAM,very much to blame for not acquainting the stationmasr lers with the information, likely u tb be asked by the travelling public. Our local officialism complete ignorance,of what has caused the suspension, or how long it is likely to .remain. -.Precisely the same state of things jirevaiied when the suspension occurred previously, and to a central station like Palmerston the matter is pne of; very-great importance. The Ministerial Head of the Department should be communicated , with on the subject, and Mr RoTH&UAM be given to understand that m future when trase js suspended from any cause, necessary information required by travellers should be promptly forwarded 1 to the various Bt*tiohs for the benefit of the public at large.
