Manawatu Road Board.

MEETING YESTERDAY.

Present — Messrs Snelson (chair), Akers, Sly, Pratt, Mathieson, Edwards, engtueer and clerk. Minutes of last general and special meeting* read and confirmed. Messrs Sanson and Thompson waited on the Board, applying to have road made to their sections m Kairanga. ...-,.... After some discussion it was resolved to accede to the request of the deputation, the latter promising that lire work be undertaken by .resident settlers, under .the supervision and direction of the Board's Engineer, payment for ttuc'h- work not to be required for two months. ••■•-■.-': ■ •;'•': Letter read from tjpe Department of Justice, requesting returns of fees paid for licenses. . during yeats ending June, 1882 to 1884. ; The Secretary was instructed to return forms enclosed, and mark nil ia all cases. , ' ; From Manawatu County Council, stating that expenses inclined by patients forwarded , to Wanganui Hospital are charged to the body sending at rate of Is : 6d per day and .£1 11s lid per month, share of staff expenses. .... , . From Railway Department^ stating that since 1881 the Manawatn County Council had been taking metal from Government gravel-pit, on tho understanding that as soon as the boundary of the Council reserves was reached ; the like quantity be taken from the j Council reserves by the Railway Department, and that as now such line is reached the Department will commence to take the required quantity. The Chairman suggested that the i Secretary write to the _ District Manager and otfer the section to the Department at a sum to be arranged. From the Public Works Departi ment, Wellington, re A wahuri Bridge, stating that as application had been made for repairing, extraordinary damages by floods, it will be approved m futl conditionally that the bridge be raised two feet higher above flood level than shown on plans.- : After considerable discussion , : on this matter, it was resolved that the engineer get the plans ready at once and proceed to Foxtpn on Thursday to interview the council sitting on that day, and lay before "the meeting the position of affairs, also to point out that this Board, had followed the suggestions of their engineer m every respect regarding the manner of the new construction. 'There was a long discussion over this question and it was ultimately by Warden Sly seconded by Warden Pratt, and carried, (Warden. Edwards only dissenting) that the Secretary reply to the effect that this Board does not see its way clear to make any compensation for the •work named. From Public Works, Wanganui, enclosing- copy of complaint from native at Awapuni re outlet to drain. ; : The Secretary was instructed to reply to the effect that . the Board a has nothing to do with the matter.
