Lecture.

Mr Geo. Sawkiris will -deliver- a lecture m the Town Hall to-morrow evening, commencing at ; 8 o'clock. The lecture is one that has l.een delivered m Various towns m Australia arid New Zealand, and so far as we have learnt has nob proved to be objectionable m its subject matter or ,the lecturer's manner of handling his' subject. It is styled a theologicoastronomical lecture, the subject being " God and the Devil and their respeo. i tive honies, Heaven and Hell." The concluding part of the advertisement is to our mind rather likely to offend than otherwise. It reads thus:-— ** The lecturer will conclude with his amusing sketch, entitled Pot your trust m God." Even those . who are not particularly straight-laced do not care for sacred subjects being burlesqued. But we will not prejudge the lecture, which may be harmless enough, though the wording of the advertisement may be injudicious. We certainly admit that Press criticism of the lecture for the most part has not been by any mejins hostile, but indeed the contrary. Mi' T. R. Walton will take the chair, and letters have been sent to the ministers of th,e various religious nominations m, viting presence. The lecture will commence at 8 o'clock.
