Waste Lands Board.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held at •Wellington on Thui'aday, Mr W. A. Marchaut, Acting Commissioner of Crown Lands, occupying the. chair. There were present Messrs Thomas Mason, George Beotham, M.H.R., aud Henry Bunny. The Chairman reported that no land had been sold hincc the last meeting 1 of the board. An application was lvoeived from Mr J. Carroll lo capitalise future instalments on his deferred-payment section 1568, Block X, Mangaone. The applications were granted. A, letter was read, from Mr Gillespio applying to the same effect, but it was resolved to inform him that he must pay tip one instalment and capitalise. The Chairman read a letter from the Crown lands ranger, reporting thai totara was being cut by settlers on the Tiraumea River and Maugaone Block. A letter was read from Mr J. McMillan, a defei red payment selector m Mangaone Block, regarding his unpaid instalments ; fchemiltor was allowed to stand over until the next meeting. The Chairman then laid before the board t|je report of the Crown Lands Banger on his inspection of deferred payment sections, and staled that he nad warned all those who were m arrear with their improvements that they must have them completed at onoe. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Hobinson for his valuable report, expressing the pleasure of the board at the satisfactory state of affairs with the deferred payment selectors. A letter was read from Mossw Cash Jan d Esam, solicitors, Mat ton, stating Messrs Beckett, Hammond and Dick's claim to Rangitira Block. The matter was allowed to stand over until positive proof is obtained of the ownership of the land. An application was received from Mr J. S. Mansfield for leave to reside away from his deferred payment section on account of his health. It was resolved not to press the residence question at present. The Chairman brought before the board his report on the Civown lands available for sale in* various districts. After some discussion, it was finally determined that the chief surveyor should prepare lithographed plans for Mangaone, Kopuranga and Pahiaiua, with all information as to sections, W the next meeting. Mr McCardle asked the board whether they would be willing to authorise the payment of sums of money from deferred payment thirds due on Pahiatua Block. The' board resolved that they would favorably consider that matter when properly applied for. waa $hen, on the suggestion of Mi' Beetharii, resolved that the Chairman should communicate with the Chairman of the School Commissioners re dealing with the Education Reserves under the Act 1882, sections 53 to 58 included. The meeting then adjourned.
