Mr John Holmes has replied to the unemployed that the G-overnmont have! promised to instruct Mr March to ascertain who cannot .j^go to Mttle River, and to endeavor' to find work nearer home for them; ,Ou Thui-sday nij»ht a stack of timber at Flerir's mill, Oxford, . caught fire. The whole stock, worth i£Boo was destroyed, together with the shed and machinery, belts and saws. There was no insurance on the stock, bub the building and plant were insiued for m the National Office. The cause is not known. Sept. 14. At 'a meeting of the unemployed last night, it was resolved to ask the Government to construct some of the proposed line of railway by »mall contracts, so that the unemployed might get % work at remunerative waged.
