Cruelty to Animals.
At the Balls R.Hf, Conrfc' on Thursday, Q. E. Little, of Makino, was chafgedby Constable Price with unlawfully ill-treating a calf and leaving it on the roadside, and m answer to the usual question pleaded guilty. In explanation, accused stated that the calf had been given to him ; that it was miable to travel with a mob of 20 or 30 cows he was driving throngh Sandon on 19th .August last ; that lie dismounted and cii^ the calf's throat with a blunt knife, and that while dismounted his horse got away and he had to go after it. It answer, to questions, Mr (X Tomlinxon stated that the offence was committed on a Tqesday, on Thursday ho was tohl the school children were driving the poor beast along the road, jfyit at eyery fpw Steps it nibbled blape^ of grag.s w|iich at once passed tl)voug-h the ga^h m the throat. Aftor seeing the condition of the animal, Mr Tomlinson caused it to ho shot and buried. Tbe R.M. addressing accused said : "You are ; fined, L 5 anil co^ts, m all U 125." .
