Mr Hobbs has given notico that ho will move as an amendment, m reference to the proposed committee for reporting on the North Island trunk railway, " That m the opinion of this House it i« preferable that the Government should make a recommendation, as to the route iq hje> adopted.'* There will ulsq, it is be^ lieved, be a proposal matfe to foim the committee entirely of Middle Imland memhyrs. It is rumoured (says the Parliamentary correspondent of the Marfcon paper) that tho Government intend adding three more Southern members to give it a more Judicial complexion. It is impossible to predict where the line will run, so many cross purposes are at work. A lar>e majority of -the Auckland members are m favour of the Stratford line.
