(UNITED PEBB3 ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, August 20. Rosina Smith still maiutains the strictest silence regarding her antecedents, and refuses to give any information regarding the fether of the child. The police have' discovered that some months ' ago she "was * employed m a hotel at Cambridge, Waikato. Amongst her effects a small bottle of laudanunv has been found. A gentleman, when talking to the prisoner, heard the a child cry and saw it move "m" hW arms. This was at, 7 o'dook) and at 20 minutes past 7 the prisoner was back at Wakeham's,, a good ten r mmuteßvValkfroni v Mason's gardens. The police theory consequently is that she buried the child alive. An inquest will be hel4 tomorrow at two o^dock. ■■■■'. Later. DISCOVERY OF THE BODY. The body of Rosiha Smith's baby was found by the -police buried m Mason's garden; Parnell Road. The woman was taken up to Parnell m a tab by the detectives, and when pas- ' sing the garden she said, " Don't take me m there,; it's .there !" She now states that it was ill, and she gave it a dose of medicine to keep it quiet, when it died. She also states that ■he was deceived by a married man.
