Hichard Feltors Campion, son of an old colonist, who went to Government House last night, and demanded the keys of the building from the custodian, was again remanded to the Lunatic Asylum. There w«re 1200 spectators present at the close of the match. DuNEDitf, August 3. The Industrial Exhibition was opened yesterday m th« Garrison Hall by his Worship the Mayor, and was well attended. The exhibits are principally such as have been shown before. The affair has been got up by the Naval Brigade Brass Band, 1 which had imported electro.plated in--1 Btnimenis from England at a cost of LSOO, and hopes by means of the exhibition to liquidate a portion of their cost. The Mimic Parliament was ooened here very successfully last night. Mr Roliert Stout enacted the part of the ! Governor, and opened the session ! with an address. The Dunedin Jockey Club has raised the Dunedin Cup to lOOOsova, and the Jockey Club Handicap to ' 400sovs. These events are run at the February meeting. I Napier, August 2. The official dccluration of the poll for the Eastern Maori District took place to-day, and placed Wi Pere with 800 votes, James Carroll 775. In addressing the natives afterwaids, Mr Carroll said m effect that if his suspicions were conHrmed fc by further investigations he would take proceedings to upset the election. i Christchurch, August 2. Last night, at a meeting m. the Foresters Hall, il was resolved to form a laborers' union, the object of which is stated not to be to obtain extortionate wages,lmt to enable men to get employment at a fair rate. By the San Francisco mail, Mr A. G. Hawland received a quantity of hickory nute, which he purposes distributing m order to encourage the growth of that Useful timber. The nuts have arrived m excellent order.
