Accident on Paikakariki.
[Post.] A correspondent sends as particulars of an accident which happened on the Paikakariki Hill on Wednesday afternoon, m which Mr Samuel Brown, ot this city, had an almost miraculous escape from a violent death. Mr Brown, who had gone up country on business connected with his contract on the section of the Manawatu railway extending from Pukerua to Paikakariki, was driving over the hill m a buggy, when about dusk, as he was beginning to descend the hill, he lost control over his horse through the reins slipping through his fingers. Before he could get the animal m hand again one of the wheels went over the edge of the pre-, cipice, and Mr Brown had just time te jump out— rhaving to tear the apron to do so— when both trap and horse disappeared over the declivity. Both were subsequently recovered, and strange to say the horse does not appear to have sustained any serious injury \ the vehicle, however, is pretty well smashed np.
