(Before JR. Ward, Esq., R.M. WIFE DESERTION. Catherine Lough v. Ambrose Lough. Complainant deposed to accused having left her last January, without money or means of subsistence ; she had four children to support; bad received no letter to account for his absence, her only means of support was her son who earns 8s a week ; accused is a brewer, is m good health, and is able to earn good wages ; had to seek safety out of the house from his murdering hand on three different occasions ; on three occasions accused had assaulted her so violently that both doctor and minister had given her up. Accused said he had gone to Wanganui to .seek work. The Bench considered accused had acted m a cruel anu heartless manner m leaviug his wife and children destitute. For the two children who are unable to earn their own living, an order was made for weekly payments of 7s 6d each, till they attain the age of 14 year*; the amount to be paid every four weeks. For wife desertion accused was sentenced to one rapDthVhard labour m Wanganui gaol. THR SALVATION ARMY. A. Wilkinson v. A. Ellingham. Mr J. H. Hankins for accused, who was charged with making a disturbance at the Salvation Army services at the Foresters' Hall last Sunday evening- Evidence <vas taken to the effect that a disturbance took placo m the lobby during the services. Accused --was asked to withdraw, but refused to do so. Paltridge, Gaustad and Wilkinson then ejected him ; accused wanted Gaustad to come outHide and tight. A. Paltridge gave evidence as to the . words used. Cross-examined by accused : Was not known as " the battering ram of the Salvation Army;" did butt wjth his head last Sunday evening for the first time when the disturbance was taking place. The defence was that the accused had been ejected m an unceremonious manner, though he had not been guilty of any previous mis-conduct, and being i/nnoyed had made certain remarks though not those attributed to him. H. Kear deposed that the disturbance lasted about half an honv. Cross-examined : Admitted having held out invitations to the community to attond the meetings of the Salvation Army. 0. Gaustad deposed to having been struck by the accused, on his refusing a challenge to fight. The accused was fined 5s and costs [Left Sitting]. " :
